21/06/11 - TC,    Kilbride 1-16, Moynalty 1-11

On the longest day of the year, Kilbride and Moynalty served up the longest match of the year in front of a large crowd on a wet Tuesday evening in Kilbride for this Tailteann Cup quarter final..

Kilbride started well with good points from Brian White and David Harford but Moynalty rocked back wtih some quickfire points and a major from Tommy Dowd who was otherwise well shackled by John Smith. Moynalty were on top for a 15 minute spell and they used the ball to good effect to keep the umpires busy. The Kilbride attack was moving well and were rewarded when Gareth Lynch finished off a good move to the net. David Harford tagged on a few more points but Kilbride went into the break 3 points down.

The second half was a similarly tight affair with Kilbride winning more of the breaks and clawing their way back into the match. Kilbride had the rare luxury of a strong bench and it was duly unloaded with all of the subs making major contributions. Moynalty kept edging ahead but Kilbride showed a lot of guts to eventually draw level with the final whistle approaching. Moynalty were working their way out of defence until Marty Brady produced a brave block and from the ensuing scramble won a free which David Harford converted to bring the match to extra time.

Kilbride had the momentum now and managed to keep up a good level of intensity to go a few points in front. In the second half of extra time, Kilbride stepped up a gear to close out the game from a Moynalty team who never gave up. Stephen O'Sullivan and Dave Barron added huge points to the scoreline and propel Kilbride into the next round.

Long serving player Paddy O'Neill was playing his last match before leaving for Australia and will be a big loss to this Kilbride team.

17/06/11 - AFL,    Moynalty 0-12, Kilbride 0-11

Kilbride went down narrowly to an efficient Moynalty outfit on a sunny but windy evening in Moynalty.

Moynalty settled first and were 3 points to nil up within a few minutes. Kilbride then got hold of midfield and put serious pressure on the Moynalty backs with points from Mark Sheridan, Jeff Sheridan and David Harford. Kilbride went into the break 3 points down but knew that they would have the wind in the second half.

Kilbride played well in the second half with the backs marking very tightly but suffered for a 15 minute period when Moynalty won and converted a lot of primary possession. Kilbride rallied for the last 10 minutes with long range points from Ollie Nolan, John Bruton, Brian White and an inspirational score from David Barron but just fell short and ran out of time.

11/06/11 - JFC,    Kilbride 2-07, Slane 1-12

Slane put Kilbride to the sword in Walterstown to keep their own championship bid alive while extinguishing Kilbrides for 2011.

Kilbride started really well with some great forward play by David Harford, Mark Sheridan and Finbarr Clarke putting big pressure on the Slane backs. Points by David Harford and goals by Willie Tormey and Finbarr Clarke put Kilbride in the driving seat at half time with a lead of 5 points.

In the second half Slane rallied and continued to tag on points and an opportunistic point brought them within one point and a free soon after drew them level and they never looked back.

Kilbride mustered a few points from David Harford and Jeff Sheridan but in truth they paid for their lack of scoring in the second half despite putting pressure on the Slane backs.

31/05/11 - AFL,    Kilbride 0-03, Longwood 4-13

Longwood came to Kilbride on a sunny evening and well and truly dispatched their hosts to the mother and father of a league defeat.

Longwood fielded a strong 15 including county men while Kilbride were decimated with injuries and suspensions.

For the first half of the game, there was little between the sides in general play as Kilbride dominated midfield and the approach play was good although Kilbride unfortuantely kicked a lot of wides into a difficult wind. At this point Ollie Nolan and John Bruton were doing well at midfield and the Kilbride half backs were winning a lot of breaking ball.

The second half signalled a massive downturn in the Kilbride effort levels as Longwood turned the screw and displayed awesome fitness levels to really close out the game in style.

14/05/11 - JFC,    Kilbride 1-05, Trim 2-12

Kilbride were well beaten on a perfect night for football at Dunshaughlin by a young Trim side.

Despite a reasonable start to the game from Kilbride with a quickfire goal by Gareth Lynch, Trim got the upper hand by pinning Kilbride back into their own half for most of the first half and used the wind to good effect by converting many long range scores to lead at half time by 6 points.

In the second half Kilbride continued to concede but were unable to convert their improved possession into scores on the board.

30th April 2011 - JFC    Kilbride 2-09, Wolfe Tones 1-10,

Kilbride got their championship bid back on track with a determined performance against Wolfe Tones in Skryne last Saturday night.

Kilbride started brightly with some good movement creating chances but the scoreboard operator was not overly troubled. Wolfe Tones then settled and added a flurry of points to a converted penalty to lead by 08 to 02 at half time. The score reflected the fact that Wolfe Tones were superior in every position and were hungrier to the ball.

Harsh words were spoken at half time and it looked like they were in vain as Wolfe Tones registered the first scores of the half to quickly accelerate into a 9 point lead and at this point things looked grim.

Kilbride went to the well one more time and found something deep down in the way of spirit and started to click into gear. The turnaround was sparked by a good Gareth Lynch point and was quickly followed by a John Bruton goal after a pin point pass by Niall Farrelly. Paul Smith scored another goal immediately after the next kickout and Kilbride were suddenly in 5th gear after being in reverse for the previous 40 minutes.

Kilbride managed to keep the momentum going with further points from Brian White, Ollie Nolan, Finbarr Clarke and John Smith to overtake Wolfe Tones and establsih a 2 point lead which was harsh on a good Wolfe Tones outfit but just about deserved over the entire match.

16th April 2011 - JFC    Kilbride 0-06, Ballivor 0-21,

Kilbride were given the mother and father of a beating by a slick Ballivor outfit in a match played in good conditions in Dunderry.

After 20 minutes it was a draw match and the game was evenly poised, indeed Kilbride should probably have been ahead at that point. However Ballivor started to get a strong hold on the match and tagged over 4 unanswered scores to lead by 08-04 at half time with all to play for.

The second half was one way traffic as Ballivor seemed to go through Kilbride's entire team like a knife through butter. Kilbride had no answer and Ballivor did not let up the pressure and ran out deserved winners.

For Kilbride, Brian White and Marty Brady were the two standout performers on a night when most lads played well below their own standards.

06th March 2011 - AFL    Kilbride 0-14, Dunsany 0-08,

Kilbride registered a second win in the league over Dunsany on a dry day at Kilbride pitch.

Kilbride started well but had nothing to show for the first 15 minutes of dominance before Dunsany registered a few points from frees. New Daddy Finbarr Clarke came off the bench and made an instant impact with a point from a tight angle and soon after Ollie Nolan weighed in with a long range point before Brian White had a goal disallowed as a "square ball" to leave the game evenly poised at half time.

Kilbride upped the tempo in the second half and were driven forward by John Bruton, Craig Sheridan, Ollie Nolan, Gareth Lynch and Dave Barron who all registered fine points. Kilbride's backs were on top now and giving very little room to the Dunsany forwards.

Dunsany did rally and threatened to bring the match to the wire but Ollie Nolan and Emmet Farrell somehow managed to keep a goal bound effort out and Kilbride regrouped to seal the match with late points from Brian White, Finbarr Clarke and Jeff Sheridan.

13th February 2011 - AFL   Curraha 0-08, Kilbride 0-09

Kilbride won their opening game of the Division 4 campaign which was played in soft conditions under new manager Declan Patton.

Curraha started very well and dominated possession but were wasteful in the first ten minutes and this profligacy was to come back to haunt them as they lost the match by the minimum difference. After some initial wides, Curraha finally got the eye in and threatened to put the game out of sight. Kilbride finally got going with points from Craig Sheridan, John Bruton and Brian White.

Despite being in charge at half time 0-7 to 0-4, Curraha could only register a single score in the second half from a Sean Mallon free.

In a complete reversal of the first half, Kilbride dominated the second half in a tense encounter played in appalling conditions. Although the match is not likely to be appearing on a video store shelf anytime soon, both teams at least tried to play football and keep things moving for the sizeable attendance.

Craig Sheridan caught some great ball at midfield ably assisted by John Bruton, while Brian White and Ollie Nolan won some great primary possession in the full forward line to keep the pressure on Curraha. The entire Kilbride back division were immaculate in the second half only conceding one long range free for the entire 30 minutes.

Kilbride finally reeled in Curraha with a few minutes to go from a succession of well taken Paul Smith frees and were not bettered from there.

Kilbride - Emmett Farrell, Sean Farrell, Marty Brady, Stephen Sullivan, Niall Farrelly, David Barron, John Smith, John Bruton 0-1, Ollie Nolan, Willie Tormey, Jeff Sheridan, Craig Sheridan 0-1, Joe Barron, Brian White 0-3, Finbar Clarke.
